The traditional Chinese philosophy of health is based on the principle of a balanced flow of “life-force” energy throughout one’s body. This energy, known as Qi, travels through pathways beneath the skin called meridians.
An imbalance in this energy system can be the cause or effect of a variety of conditions. Anything from physical injury or trauma to strong emotions or inadequacies in diet/exercise can cause, or be caused by, disharmony in the meridian system. The result? Dis-ease in one’s mind, body and/or spirit. The aim of treatment is to restore the balance and flow of Qi.
In traditional Chinese acupuncture, very fine needles are inserted into specific points along the meridians. Mild electric stimulation may be attached to the needles for a portion of the session, and always remains within the patient’s comfort level.
